Dr Julie McEnery (PPA 1989) visited the college this week to give talks on 'The Extreme Universe'. As well as speaking to our Sixth Form and academic scholars, Julie also hosted a talk for parents and alumni on Tuesday evening, helping to raise money for the astronomy club's new observatory.
Julie discussed the discoveries of the relatively new Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope as well as her wider work with NASA. Despite talks of blackholes, ultra-dense and highly magnetic stars and remnants of stellar explosions, Julie ensured that even the least space worthy amongst us were able to follow along and enjoy learning from her.
Julie's work alone is inspiring, but her journey from Prior Park College to NASA is something that was particularly powerful for our students to hear about. We are very grateful to Julie for her visit.
