Charities Week

After previous years facing COVID disruptions, Charities Week returned for 2022 and has been a great success. Students across the school organised various fundraising events and it was great to see the whole community get behind them.

In Baines House, the Celebration Committee organised a charity Easter Egg Hunt. Despite a sudden snow storm the students were as determined as ever and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Brownlow students were encouraged to take on individual challenges to raise money. Challenges included blindfolded penalty shoot outs, running a marathon over two days, cycling to Bristol and back and solving a Rubix cube 30 times in 30 minutes. The students raised over £1200 in total, a huge achievement. A special well done to Phoebe, who raised £250 with her sponsored swim in the school pool.

The Senior Houses also put in lots of effort. There were many bake sales throughout the week, a favourite being Fielding House's Krispy Kreme sale on Tuesday. The Arundell girls did a sponsored walk on Mothering Sunday with their families. Burton U6 mucked in and hosted a carwash after school. Monday night saw students of all ages competing in a charity five-aside football tournament which the Sixth Formers had organised. Then later in the week the football 1st XI took on the U6 girls on the netball courts. Despite some tough competition and the match going to extra time, the girls were victorious.

English House raised a brilliant £920 at their Charity Concert. The night was filled with very talented solo performances and entertaining tutor group dances, the concert even featured dinosaurs dancing to Beyoncé. They also prepared a sweet shop and tie die t-shirts that were for sale, as well as a raffle, all helping them earn their impressive total. Possibly the event that will be remembered most fondly from Charities Week 2022 is the 'Charity Pillow Fighting' organised by Allen House. As well as Sixth Formers, some very kind staff agreed to take to the ring in front of a very excited paying audience to raise some money. Thank you to Mr Horan, Mr Cane Hardy, Mr Bishop, Mr Jackson, Mr Edwards and Mr Blaikley for being such great sports and getting involved. We then ended the week with a whole school Mufti Day.

Charities Week 2022 was brilliant. We're incredibly proud of the effort the students put in organising events, even better it was great to see them have so much fun whilst doing it. We do not have a final total yet, but we are pleased to estimate we will be giving over £3000 to this years school charity Loving Humanity from the students fundraising efforts this week. What a great way to end the term.
