Health & Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing Centre
The Health and Wellbeing Centre (HWC) consists of a wellbeing room, counselling room, consultation and treatment room, and four beds to allow for ill or injured students to be looked after by the nursing team.
-
Qualified nurses provide physical and emotional care to cover a wide variety of health needs. The nursing team also provide a listening service for students.
-
The HWC's opening hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 to 18:00. There is always a qualified nurse on site during these times.
-
The HWC utilises complementary therapies alongside more traditional ones. It also offers weekly relaxation sessions, provided by an external wellbeing coach, which enables students to have a quiet space during a busy school day.
Counselling Service
- Prior Park's trained counsellor, Jan Robertson, is based in the Health and Wellbeing Centre.
- Jan runs group sessions for students who have suffered family bereavement or parent separation.
- Students can also access the Counselling Service through our self referral system or by talking to a member of the pastoral team.
PSHE
A holistic Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education starts with helping students to know themselves, in order to understand their health and wellbeing, to identify their values and how to act with integrity. In the wider world, we want our students to be curious, generous towards others, and to stand up for what they believe with courage; not only to understand tolerance, but to know acceptance and strive for celebration of diversity.
As the world changes, our curriculum adapts regularly to the needs of our students – this year’s scheme of work can be found below, alongside resources to support conversations at home.

Jan Robertson
Jan is Prior Park's trained counsellor and has been a Person-Centred therapist since 1993, working with adults, young people, children, families and couples for over 20 years. Her passion is to see clients work through their problems by finding the answers within themselves.
Jan trained at the University of Bristol and is a Fellow of the National Counselling Society. She also supervises and lectures on person centred therapy and many aspects of mental health.
In addition to Jan, the Health and Wellbeing Centre has a full-time Mental Health and Wellbeing Assistant.
