Wassail! Carols of Comfort and Joy

The Paragon and Prior Park College music departments presented a magical evening last night in Our Lady of the Snows Chapel.

The concert began with Mr Sackett conducting the College Orchestra as they performed Bizet's 'Overture to Dr Miracle.' Two soprano's from The Paragon, Bonamy Purcell and Lucia Hayward-Rodgers, delighted the audience with their solo performances. Charlotte Gent (L3), an extraordinarily good harpist, then performed 'Chaconne' by Jeremiah Clarke.

Mr Robertson introduced our special guest for the event, choral composer and arranger of international claim, Alexander L'Estrange. Mr L'Estrange is currently on tour with his Wassail - Prior Park is the third date in this year's UK tour. He explained to the audience, the rich history of Wassailing and how he had selected the carols for this event, hoping that the spirit of joy, reflection and celebration would bring pleasure to singers and listeners alike.

Mr Robertson and Miss Kettlety conducted PPC's Chapel Choirs and Year 4 Paragon Choir, all dressed for the occasion in festive jumpers and, for The Paragon children, impressive hats! They performed twelve 'carols of comfort and joy' with some based on songs dating back to the 13th century.

It was a wonderfully atmospheric occasion, enjoyed by audience and performers alike. Thank you to the music departments and, of course, Alexander L'Estrange, for organising.
