It was, as always, a privilege to be in the audience for The Grand Leavers' Concert last night and listen to our many talented U6 students one more time.
Under the direction of Director of Music, Mr Robertson, the Prior Park Philharmonic accompanied the soloists. Finlay began proceedings performing Bohme's Trumpet Concerto before William played the first movement of Weber's Bassoon Concerto. Jamie and Kit then played in turn the first and last movements of Neruda's Trumpet Concerto. Nia and Finlay finished the first half of the concert with Nia playing the slow movement of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No2, before Finlay performed its inspiring finale.
Before the audience enjoyed refreshments on the lawns, Mr Robertson presented the following awards:
Concerto Cup - Finlay Dove
Stuart Cup - Jamie Osborne
Williamson Cup for strings - Yasmin Tenk
Alumni Cup - Edmund Mortimer
The concert resumed with Ed performing the Organ Concerto in Bb 'The Cuckoo and the Nightingale' by Handel. Amy sang Burn beautifully from the hit show, Hamilton, before Yasmin cooled the summer heat with Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons. We were treated to two oboe perforances, Gabriel performed the aptly named Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone before Molly played Handel's Oboe Concerto in G Minor. Fred performed a sultry sax rendition of Debussy's La plus que lent before Izzy sang For Good from Wicked. The concert was brought to a close by The Gentlemen of the Rome Choir Tour singing Judgement Day. Bravo to all performers on a wonderful evening!
