Congratulations to Alex, Victoria, Sam and Georgia who were awarded 1st place in the University Challenge at Salters’ Festival of Chemistry in May at Bath University.
The students competed against 10 other rival schools to secure first place in the afternoon session. The pupils were challenged to devise a ‘recipe’ to reduce the temperature of the Doctor’s Tardis to a specified operational temperature to avoid fusing and malfunction. The task stretched and challenged the team beyond the curriculum, and showed that they were able to apply foundation principles into unfamiliar contexts. The team were congratulated for their team work, attention to detail, safety in the laboratory and accuracy of their results. Miss Lampard commented on their reflective approach to their work in the morning session, identifying their strengths as a team, as well as immediate areas for improvement. Along with their certificate, Alex, Victoria, Sam and Georgia have been rewarded with personalised Prior Park lab coats, which has certainly set the trend within the department! Well done to all!
