Tennis Programme
Prior Park College has a great all year-round tennis programme. It is a main sport in the summer term with regular tennis fixtures with schools in the local area. Prior also enters national school events and has a great tennis record, we finished second nationally last year in the U13 / U15 (girls) and finished third in the U18 event. This gave us an LTA British schools year end ranking of second in the country.
Players will have tennis games lessons throughout the summer term and those that have a keen interest in the sport can have lessons throughout the year with our experienced, qualified coaching team. This is an additional cost which is added to the school bill. Recreational tennis players tend to have one lesson a week (after school). Those of a higher standard tend to have lessons (2+) fitted in during the day in their academic timetable - either during study periods or non-core subjects. Lessons happen all year round.
For elite tennis players - we work in partnership with the TeamBath Tennis Academy who coach some of the top juniors in the country. Players from the school go to train at the academy throughout the school day as part of a bespoke timetable and we arrange taxi transfer for them. Players must be of the right standard to access the academy - this is assessed via video of the players, international results/rankings and/or a player assessment on arrival. As I am sure you can appreciate the standard is very high. Several international students have come to Prior recently and are above traditional school level but not quite academy standard. For these types of players we arrange lessons at school accompanied by a development group at the University. This gives them a combination of indoor and outdoor coaching which works well.
