Careers Guidance

Careers education is an integral part of Sixth Form life at Prior Park College. Our aim is to help each student make informed decisions about their future, supported by a wide range of opportunities to explore potential pathways.

A varied programme of careers events runs throughout Sixth Form, including guest speakers, conferences, and our biennial Careers Fair. Work experience also forms an important part of our provision, with students encouraged to explore placements that align with their interests.

Our Sixth Form team provides dedicated support throughout the university admissions process. Students have access to Unifrog software to research and refine their post-18 options, alongside individual guidance meetings covering course choices, finance, accommodation, and student life. We also offer expert advice on UCAS applications and personal statements.

In addition to university preparation, we support a broad range of career pathways. Students benefit from opportunities to engage with industry professionals, gaining insight into the realities of different professions. We offer tailored guidance for specific fields such as Medicine and students applying to Oxford or Cambridge attend focused sessions, including preparation for admissions tests and practice interviews.

Earlier in the school, pupils begin to explore future pathways through the PSHE programme, developing an understanding of career options alongside wider themes such as work-life balance.

Higher Education and Next Steps

At Prior Park College, we offer a comprehensive and personalised programme of support to guide students through every stage of their higher education journey.

From the outset, students are encouraged to explore their options in depth, with expert guidance on researching courses and universities. Our experienced staff support each student through the application process, ensuring they make informed decisions and submit strong, competitive applications. This includes tailored advice on writing personal statements and the preparation of detailed, supportive references.

Students applying to highly competitive universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, benefit from a dedicated programme of preparation. This includes support with admissions tests, subject-specific guidance, and mock interviews designed to build confidence and maximise success.

Those considering careers in medicine receive specialist support to help them navigate the complexities of medical applications. All of those considering this career path can also join our MedSoc (Medical Society), where they can access a programme of lectures and specialist guidance. 

For students exploring opportunities overseas, expert advice is available to guide them through international application processes.

Our strong alumni network gives Sixth Form students access to a range of talks and workshops, offering useful insights into different career paths and industries. Where possible, alumni may also be available to be contacted for informal advice and guidance.

At Prior Park College, we also recognise that pathways beyond school are not always immediate. We continue to support recent leavers as they plan their next steps, offering ongoing guidance to ensure every student is well placed to move forward with confidence.
