Baines and Brownlow students were treated to a lively talk by Holly Smale this afternoon. The author shared anecdotes about her multi-million selling series of books 'Geek Girl' and her latest novel, 'Happy Girl Lucky'.
'Geek Girl' is based on her own 'traumatised' childhood - Holly explained how she was a geek at school, and bullied for it, before becoming a 'terrible model' who couldn't walk in high heels. Her books reflect on what it feels like to be an outsider, being scared or ashamed for being different. Through her writing, Holly "took a horrible experience and made it something positive." Well done too to our Y7 and Y8 students for asking some great questions at the end of the talk.
Our thanks to librarians Virginia and Helen for organising this visit.
