What a great week of tennis for all the schools and players involved. This has been an incredibly high standard of national level tennis, involving players who have also competed in Junior Wimbledon. It has involved four days of intense play, both physically and mentally demanding in this individual sport.
The Prior Park College players have committed to the highest levels of physical effort and technical performance and have stepped up the challenge of taking on the best players in the country.
Today’s play saw Prior Park lose the 4th and 3rd seed singles against significantly higher rated players.
Nell Arendt played a convincing 2nd seed singles keeping the match live for the doubles. This was followed by No 1 seed, Hannah Davies winning her singles in two sets.
So, on to the doubles.
Lucy and Sophie made a good fight of their doubles but lost out to a strong pair from Surbiton. Nell and Hannah went into a high quality evenly balanced doubles involving several dynamic net volley rallies.
At one set all they went into a tie break third set winning 11-9 !
This forced a Tie - break doubles match shoot out to decide the 7th and 8th places.
The final shoot out was 10-1 to Surbiton, so, it is 8th place out of 16 schools for Prior Park College in our first year in the National Finals.
Well done Ladies!!!
We are all very proud of you at The College.
