Sixth Form at Prior
The Sixth Form are the leaders of our student body and understand their responsibility as role models for younger pupils. By this time in their academic life, these young people have developed a sense of who they are and who they want to be. We support and encourage our pupils to be self-motivated and clear about their goals. Pupils take ownership of their learning and their achievements. The Sixth Form Centre, College library, the ICT Centre, the Academy Hall and Houses offer attractive study areas.
For updates and alerts, remember to follow the Prior Park Sixth Form Twitter feed, @6thformmatters.
Academic results are excellent and 98% of our Sixth Formers go on to university, the majority to their first choice university. Entry in to the Sixth form requires a minimum of six A*-C grades at GCSE.
Capable, Confident and Conscientious
It is our job to ensure that, at the end of the Sixth Form, our Leavers are capable, confident, compassionate and independent-minded young adults. They will be grounded individuals, ambitious for life and equipped to make the most of the opportunities they have.
The key competencies expected of graduating Prior Park students are a combination of knowledge, skills and attitudes. These competencies are interdependent and are particularly necessary for personal fulfilment and development, social inclusion, active citizenship, employment and service. Please download the Key Competencies document on the right of this page.
Sixth Formers are supported to develop independent learning skills and to have a practical awareness of the world beyond school; its needs, opportunities and personal challenges. We offer a wide Enrichment Programme, which encourages increased awareness and responsibility. The programme includes; community projects, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme (DofE), the General Studies lecture programme, the Ralph Allen Society Lecture Series, a wealth of performance and arts opportunities, as well as sporting excellence and sport for all.
There is a strong awareness of the many pressures and challenges our students face in these hugely important years. As well as providing dedicated pastoral care, we ensure students participate in opportunities for relaxation and socialising with friends.
The Sixth Form Community
The Sixth Form is a strong community in which an individual’s confidence and talents can grow. It is also a lively, socially enjoyable and intellectually stimulating time in a pupil’s school career. The focal point of the Sixth Form community is the Sixth Form Centre providing the perfect space to liaise, socialise, research, study and relax. The two Heads of Sixth Form are based in the Sixth Form Centre. Beyond very high academic and behavioural expectations we want our Leavers to be fulfilled and well-rounded individuals.
"There is always a great atmosphere in the Sixth Form Common Room. You can either relax with friends or find a quiet spot to study."
